10 Black Female Content Creators Who Keep Me (Somewhat) Sane

Happy Black History Month! Happy Women’s History Month Eve!
I’d like to celebrate both with a list of Black female content creators that I love and think you should, too.

Alexandria Hepburn
Visual Artist

Instagram

I am incredibly lucky to call Alexandria not only an inspiration, but a personal friend, as well. Working with her in the past has always been such a pleasure, I consistently recommend her design and photography services to any and everyone looking for one. She’s also a wife and cat mom with an infectious laugh who consistently radiates positive energy and artistic inspiration.

Nandi Bushell
Musician
Instagram
"Everlong" Cover

Nandi Bushell is a multi-talented musical artist who has collaborated with artists like Dave Grohl, The Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, and Tom Morello. She masterfully plays a library of instruments, but is best known for her drumming, which has landed her stadium-filled concert opportunities, millions of views on viral videos, and countless talk shows. She is also eleven years old. Amazing.

Jade Cargill
Athlete
Instagram
Twitter

Jade Cargill has a history of excellence that she carries proudly into every arena she dominates. Her outstanding athleticism, absolutely shredded physique, and unbridled confidence have made her an unexpectedly groundbreaking addition to women’s professional wrestling. She’s already created history by becoming All Elite Wrestling’s inaugural TBS champion, and is undefeated to date, at 29-0. Oh, and she is also a mother, wife, fitness model, SavageXFenty influencer, former college basketball champion, and she also holds a Master’s degree in Child Psychology. Unbridled. Excellence.

Kelsey Ellis
Body-Positive Fitness Coach
Instagram
YouTube
Patreon

Kelsey is a multi-award-winning Body Positive Health and Wellness Coach and the owner of Healthy With Kelsey. Her personal story is moving, her content is full of positive energy, and her brand is deeply thoughtful and fully intentional on topics of racial inclusion, social justice, empathic connection, and moving consistently against the grain of an industry riddled with dangerous misinformation, fatphobic rhetoric, and unhealthy standards. And if all that weren’t enough, she’s also an absolutely delightful person.

Nyakim Gatwech
Fashion Model
Instagram

Nyakim Gatwech is a Sudanese fashion model with deep, sumptuously dark skin, a feature she celebrates at every moment. But global beauty standards have historically run rampant with not just racism, but also colorism. In 2015, a stunned (and deeply ignorant) Uber driver told Nyakim she should bleach her skin if she wants to be successful. She told him, “My melanin is a blessing.” Since then, she’s gone on to model for many labels all across the globe and spread her positivity and live out her mantra: “Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul.”

Peppermint
Drag Performer, Musician, and Trans Advocate
Instagram

RuPaul’s Drag Race. Season 9 runner up. The first out trans woman to originate a lead role on Broadway. Television star. Recording artist. But most importantly, Peppermint is an activist. As a co-founder of Black Queer Town Hall, she has raised over $270,000 for aid and support foundations that help walk the words “Black Trans Lives Matter.” Her talents are great, but her goodness is greater. She is love, and I love that.

Danielle Radford
Writer, Producer, Comedian, Actor
Twitter
Tights and Fights Podcast

Danielle Radford has a way with words. And that way makes me laugh. Not that polite, “Oh, I see what you did there” laugh. The wiping away tears, “Wow. Deep cut. You get me. And that’s actually terrifying.” kind of way. She lends her words to comedic endeavors like Honest Trailers and Screen Junkies News, but I fell in love with Danielle thanks to The Tights and Fights Podcast. Nerdy. Babe. Wrestling fan. She just…gets me. And follows me on Twitter. So until we’re IRL besties, I continue to adore her from afar by mass-liking her Tweets.

Jessamyn Stanley
Yoga Instructor, Body Positivity Advocate, Author
Instagram
Website

No voice has impacted my journey to body positivity more effectively than Jessamyn Stanley’s. She dedicates her life to wellness in every sense of the word, and has extended her focus of bringing positivity and strength from herself to her yoga students. Then to her social media followers. And now, to the world as a whole. Her body, her spirit, her voice, and her influence are strong. And she makes me stronger because of it.

Brittney Vaughn
True Crime & Makeup YouTuber
YouTube
Instagram

I love true crime content, and I follow lots of content creators in that realm. I follow quite a few who also do their makeup while doing their storytelling. But no one does it the way Brittney does. Her Southern gossip-style (but still immaculately researched and presented) storytelling sets a time-devouring backdrop for what also becomes an absolutely fuh-law-less makeup look. Her talent knows no bounds, and her wit stretches even further. She is goals.

Marianna Vega
Wellness Mentor
Instagram
Website

I came across Marianna via a TikTok where she was responding with musically-timed “Yep” and “Nope” to statements about being an empath. Now, it is no surprise that I am a chronic, self-destructive, constantly swirling empath. And during my mental health journey, I’ve had a very difficult time sorting through what is my personality vs what is my disorder, attempting to label the thoughts in my head and rid myself of all that doesn’t serve me. And Marianna’s content, energy, and guidance has me lending myself much more grace, patience, and understanding. And for that, I am extremely thankful.
