Rejected Branding Series: Unbound Brewing

I’ve had so many great opportunities this year to brand some wonderful companies from all over the globe. But with great branding projects, some ideas get left behind.

So I’m going back to the cutting room floor to find some gems that might not have been the perfect fit for someone else, but can still shore up and create a beautiful brand showcase, if only as a personal passion project!

Here’s the first in a series of branding exercises featuring logo ideas resurrected from rejected sketches: Unbound Brewing.

Unbound Brewing is entirely a brand of my creation, inspired by a rejected logo sketch from an actual client. I imagine this brand as equal parts sentimental and irreverent, which feels like a fun juxtaposition and a perfect fit for a craft brewery.

Their visual and written brand are brash, rough, and passionate, with a basis in the Colonial American idiom. Where dark wooden barrels brimming with suds of beer and wrinkled, puply paper strips with seditious secrets from the other side are read carefully by candlelight. Here, rabble-rousers sit on creaky wooden chairs with their quills on the brink of a new nation.

(Yes, I’m still listening to a lot of Hamilton.)

More rejected branding to come! Stay tuned.
