Treats by Tippi — A Delicious Branding Endeavor
I know. I've been completely M.I.A. this month. Lots of personal stuff going on, and design has (unfortunately) taken a bit of a back seat to just getting myself together. But...
I did take on a quick design project this month that was really fun and quite the departure from my usual style. I was excited to break out of the mold and create something to help my friend Tippi transition her superpower into a business venture — and her superpower is baking.
No. You don't understand. Tippi is an amazing baker. Everything from multi-layer cakes to a few dozen cupcakes, from fruit pies to cheese straws, Tippi is the best. The best. And she's done a cake for every occasion. I've pulled some of her cake photos off her personal Instagram, and I promise you this — they (somehow) taste even better than they look.
So you can imagine my excitement when Tippi came to me and asked for help with a logo so that she can attach tags and stickers to her commissioned cakes (and pies and cookies and cheese straws and such). We talked a few months back about having a cake decorating night where she'd provide the fondant and a friend and I would paint flowers onto the cakes to give a watercolor feel. Between this memory and the super helpful reference photo she sent over, I knew I wanted to stay in line with this "watercolor/botanical" style, which is way outside my wheelhouse, but was a welcomed challenge.
By pairing an existing botanical watercolor painting with two handwritten style fonts (one sans-serif and one script), this logo design perfectly fits Tippi and her treats. The beautiful watercolor flowers represent the elevated, artisan nature of the treats Tippi creates, while the handwritten style fonts reflect the hand-crafted, from-the-heart feel of Tippi's culinary craft. I also love these soft peaches and pinks paired with the deeper purples and greens — the perfect palette for our current transition from spring into (abysmally hot) summer.
Hope you like what we created together! Now, I believe I'll have a slice of cake...
